Northwestern RECA is an electric distribution cooperative serving more than 20,000 members in five northwestern Pennsylvania counties (Crawford, Erie, Mercer, Venango and Warren) and one county in Ohio. The first permanent rural electric cooperative organized in Pennsylvania, it was incorporated on Feb. 13, 1936. It set the state's first cooperative pole on Aug. 5, 1936, and began providing electric service on May 19, 1937.
