New Enterprise REC is an electric distribution cooperative serving more than 3,400 members in three central Pennsylvania counties (Bedford, Fulton, and Huntingdon). Incorporated on November 18, 1938, the cooperative began providing electric service that month. (The cooperative assumed responsibility for several farmer-built power lines already in operation.) New Enterprise is one of a handful of electric cooperative systems in the U.S. that has never borrowed money from the federal Rural Electrification Administration/Rural Utilities Service.
